Barbara Yvon

CHICOPEE – Barbara (Tkacz) Yvon, age 81, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016, after a brave 7-year battle with cancer.  She was born November 7, 1934, in the Ukraine and immigrated to the United States with her family in 1949, settling in Holyoke.  On July 8, 1960, Barbara married her late husband, Sylvio Yvon, and they moved to Chicopee, where she has resided for the past 56 years.Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Grigor and Tanka Tkacz.  She was also predeceased by her husband, Sylvio, on June 20, 2006.  She is survived by her loving children, Michael Yvon and his wife Laura, Sharon Neilsen and her husband Rick, and Jamie Gil and her husband Jim.  She also leaves her sister, Sophie Tkacz, and six grandchildren, whom she adored, Melissa and Michelle Yvon, Adam and Gregory Neilsen, and Samantha and Peter Gil.Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, June 21, 2016, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Dillon & Edward F. Day Funeral Home, 124 Chestnut Street, Holyoke, Ma., followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 56 St. Anthony Street, Chicopee, Ma., and burial in Mater Dolorosa cemetery in South Hadley.The family would like to thank the staffs of Willimansett West nursing home and Beacon Hospice for the compassionate care and attention given to Barbara.Memorial donations may be made to Dakin Humane Society, P. O.
