Theodore J. Day

May 26, 1926 ~ March 21, 2017 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Theodore “ Ted ”  James Day  90, of Holyoke passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on March 21, 2017. Born in Springfield Ma. on May 26, 1926 he was the son of the late Edward F. and Doris E. (Ladue) Day. He was a Licensed Funeral Director and Embalmer and the Vice President, President and Treasurer of the Edward F. Day Funeral Home in Holyoke from 1949 - 1989 . He attended Holyoke Schools, and graduated from the Lyndon Institute in Lyndonville Vt. and the New England Institute of Anatomy and Embalming School in Boston. He was a Sgt. in the Army Air Corp and the Army during WWII from 1944-1946 serving in the US and Germany. Ted was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, a former vestryman and choir member, a member of and past Master of the William Whiting Lodge A.F. +A.M., the Mt. Holyoke Royal Arch Chapter, Holyoke Council Royal + Select Masters, former member Holyoke Lions Club, a 26 yr. member of the Holyoke Rotary club, a Corporator of the Vanguard Savings Bank and a Member of the Mass. Funeral Directors Association. Ted was predeceased by his loving wife Betty (Bridges) in 2010 and is survived by his three daughters Nancy J. Romeo (Stephen) of So. Hadley, Debra A. Lajoie (Robert Sicard) of Holyoke and Cynthia L.Twohig (John) of Feeding Hills, a sister Gwen (Jim)Morrissey of Granby, 8 grandchildren Alison J. Romeo, Drew A. Romeo, Ashley A. Lajoie, Manz Z. Lajoie,  Andrew P. Lajoie Jr, Brittney L. Twohig, Nicholas J. Twohig and Connor J. Twohig, 2 Great grandsons Jayden and Logan, his niece/god child Rachael Morrissey , his sister in law Marilyn Halliday of So. Hadley and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by two brothers Charles and Robert. Funeral Services will begin Wed. March 29th  at 10 a.m. from the Dillon & Edward F. Day Funeral Home 124 Chestnut St Holyoke followed by Services at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Holyoke at 11 a.m. with the committal service to follow in Forestdale cemetery. Visitation will be Tues. from 4-7 p.m. Donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 54 Wayside Ave. # C W. Springfield Ma. 01089
