Dr. Michael E. Coby, DPM

Dr. Michael E. Coby, DPM, 62 of Holyoke passed away on October 12, 2023 at Holyoke Medical Center. Born July 24, 1961 in Johnstown PA to Ernest M. and Grace Ann (Trio) Coby. Dr. Coby attended Washington & Jefferson in Washington PA, graduating with a BS in Chemistry.  He went on to medical school at Temple University in Philadelphia graduating with his DPM in Podiatry and Podiatric surgery. Dr. Coby’s medical practices were in Ware and Greenfield MA while regularly providing on-site, low cost or free podiatric services at Senior Centers around Massachusetts. Dr. Coby was known for his generosity and philanthropy for the elderly. Michael was a life-long athlete. He was a championship, long distance runner in high school and college. As a young adult, he played baseball, softball and hockey. For the past 24 years, Michael, “Doc”, was a dedicated member of the American Poolplayers Association. He surpassed 2000 plays and competed at the highest level in Las Vegas at the World Championships for the 9 Ball team event in 2011 serving as team captain, 8 Ball doubles in 2010, 9 Ball doubles in 2013 and 2023.Michael is survived by his sister, Deborah (Coby) Shafer, brother-in-law Timothy Shafer, niece Keely (Miller) Black, and nephew Pierce Miller.On Saturday, Nov 18 there will be a Pool Tournament in Michael’s, “Doc’s”, honor at Ivory Billiards, 151 Chestnut St., Holyoke MA. The tournament starts at 10 am. Also, a Celebration of Life gathering to honor“Doc” will be held on Nov 19 at Pulaski Club Hall, 79 Maple St., Easthampton MA 01027 from 1-6 pm.
