Sara Sanabria Obituary

On January 7th,2024 Sara Hilda Sanabria passed away after 70 long years on this earth. Sara was born in Puerto Rico raised in La Plena De Salinas and loved every bit of it. Her culture and her up bringing, being away from the city gave her a different view on life, being able to use the land that God gave us to sustain herself and her family. She went through hardships as a child but that molded her to became the strong woman that she was, that didn't stop her from working for what she wanted to achieve. She made sure she finished school, soon after she married her first husband Orlando Colon, they had 3 children Orlando, Rosa, and Rolando. She worked as a chef at the school cafeteria feeding children, she told many stories of how much she loved that job and the kids, she loved recreating the recipes she made so we could try them and get a taste of back home. After some time in Puerto Rico she decided to come to the United States and brought her 3 children with her. While Sara was very hardworking, For many years she did what was best for her kids and always tried her best to care for them as years passed she built a life for herself and ended up adopting her grandchildren Jasmine and Rolando Jr making them her children. Meanwhile, she was working at the puzzle factory to make sure her babies were taken care of, leading her to work until she could no longer. At one point she took night classes to better her English and to accomplish more in her life. Sara had a lot of drive and passion which made her want to know more of everything. Sara eventually remarried Monserate Baez, where she was happy and caring. Sara always wanted to help where and whenever she could. Sara will be dearly missed while everyone loved and cared for. But her memory will forever live on with us as her spirit will watch over us. Sara leaves behind her children Orlando, Rolando Sr, Jasmine and Rolando Jr, her daughter In-Law Maria, and her grandchildren Joanna, Kristy, Julie, Sara, Rosa, and Susan. To honor her Legacy we have some memories from her dearest family members. Joanna says that her favorite memory with Sara is when they would watch Pinocchio a million times a day, a memory that will live with her forever. Next up we have Jasmine, her favorite memory with Sara was when she was nominated to participate and take part in the national Spanish spelling bee and the national Spanish test, Sara was always very proud of Jasmine but knowing her daughter got nominated for something so big that was in Spanish made her even more proud, she always made sure her kids never forgot their roots and where they came from. Last but not least, Rolandos favorite memory with Sara is when on the weekends during the summer they would wake up and make breakfast together as a family, and they would go driving around all day to different cities to yard sales, tag sales, garage sales, making memories and having fun, Rolando says that he will cherish this memory forever. Funeral Services will be Thursday morning Jan.18th from 10-12 noon at the funeral home, followed by procession to St. Jerome Cemetery Northampton St Holyoke for committal services and burial.
